The Association of Maldivian Indigenous Medical Practitioners (AMIMP) is a national professional organization dedicated to the preservation, promotion, and advancement of traditional and indigenous medical practices in the Maldives. Established to protect the rich heritage of Maldivian healing traditions, AMIMP serves as a unifying body for practitioners across the country who specialize in age-old therapies such as Dhivehi beys, herbal medicine, traditional massage, and other culturally rooted healing techniques.
AMIMP plays a vital role in safeguarding intangible cultural knowledge, advocating for the recognition of indigenous medicine within the broader health sector, and ensuring the ethical and responsible practice of traditional healing. The association works closely with government agencies, cultural institutions, and healthcare bodies to create policies that support the integration of indigenous knowledge into modern health systems while respecting its unique values and methodologies.
Through training programs, research initiatives, community outreach, and documentation projects, AMIMP strives to ensure the continuity and sustainability of Maldivian indigenous medicine for future generations. The association also provides a platform for its members to exchange knowledge, uphold professional standards, and collectively address the challenges facing the field in a rapidly modernizing society.
